United StatesHow much to charge for many photos to be used in upcoming book?
I would quote this on an assignment basis. In other words, find out how many horses and their owners you will be doing and charge seperately for each session. This insures you will be compensated properly should (make that "when") changes happen - such as the number of horses photographed and the number of images used in the book. Discuss how many photos will be requested for each session before editing, where the planned subjects are etc. In order to determine usage fees, you need to know print run and other publication details.
I have just been asked by a local author in Maine to produce all the photographs to be used in their upcoming book, including the cover, and I have no clue how much I should charge per image. I will need to go on-location to photograph the subjects of the book, which will be people and their elderly horses. This will require me to go to various places with the co-author of the book, who is an equine veterinarian.
They want compilation rights to the photos for all publications, but I will still be able to sell the photographs to other buyers if I wish. I do not know how many copies will be made or where it will be published, although if that is necessary to come up with a price range, I will find out.
Thank you for any help with this!
