United States14- 20 Studio Portraits for Billboard campain?
Okay folks,
I am estimating a project for 14 to 20+ studio portraits of "real" people for a regional chapter of a national charitable organization. It is a reputable charity, good cause and they have not asked for any discounts or freebies. The photos will be used on 7 to 10 billboards 2 images will rotate at one billboard location. It will start of with 1 year usage. The images will also be used on their website. We will shoot more than one location, and 1 or 2 will require some travel (driving distance). We're still working out the logistics. Very little production required (from us).
This regional chapter has never hired a pro photographer -- they have a staff of 4. They have a budget for the entire campaign but I do not know what it is yet. I was recommended by a their designer who I've worked with before. All and all a very nice project.
I'm coming up with a fee of about $1500 per image (web and OOH 1 year regional use) plus production/retouching.
I would like to see what others would estimate on this job.
The location of the billboards is an important part. The media buy for a billboard is based on visibility so a billboard on an interstate or a big city is worth much more than 20 billboards in a low visibility area. Without knowing that factor it is hard to give an exact price but $1500 per image is ballpark for medium visibility areas.
Thanks for the comments Jim and Seth. The billboards will be placed in areas that are being targeted high rates this charity's "disease". 4 will be in a metro are with a bit over 400,000 population. 2 in a city slightly more than half of that. and the rest will be in small towns throughout the state from about 3500 to 24000 in population.
They also want to rotate 2 images per billboard. So an image may be actually used for 6 months out of a year on the billboard. Has any ever priced a non-consecutive license?

I lost the job to another photographer who was 1/5th of my price.
