United StatesHow should I charge a dance company for promotional photography?
Kitfox: When the client is unsure about usage, I have found that licensing unlimited usage for a shorter time period - lets say a year - allows them to figure things out. When I call them a month or so before that term is up they usually have specfic usages in mind by then.
The price range you are thinking of $3,000 - $4,000 is where I would be - however, after looking at your work, you should have no difficulties getting more than those numbers.
I would love to get your take on appropriate pricing for studio photography for a well known dance company.
The shoot would involve semi-complicated lighting setups of 5-10 dancers
in our studio, some solo and some group shots, and there will be 10 final images chosen and retouched for a promotional run including licensing for local bus sides, posters, pamphlets, and brochures; regional editorial use (the scope as yet to be determined), and web use for social media, company website, and promotion on other performance news sites.
I am looking to give separate quotes for 1 year of industry specific non exclusive use with company credit / non exclusive use outside of industry, and for an additional year of use.
There has also been interest expressed in adding fine art printing use to the license for large prints to hang in their studio.
I strive to work very closely with a client to determine exact usage, but in cases such as this one, they simply don't yet know the exact scope of the editorial and web use, although I think it will be on the lower end.
All of your insights are very much appreciated!
