BrazilHow much should I charge for re-use of textbook picture?
Generally speaking 25 to 50% of the original fee. It is worthwhile though to have a look at the original license which may stipulate that the original fee was for one edition only. If that is the case you may renegotiate for a substantially newer edition. Also look at your licensing arrangement with the stock agency. It may be that they were acting as your agent in which case you are probably bound by their agreement. If not then you are probably safe to renegotiate this as a new license. In which case I would stick with the previous fee. You will at the very least not be sharing this with the stock agency.
mrstock, thank you for your answer. The client replied that her company had preferred agreements (=bulk prices!) with the agency. I know from agency sales that these are pretty low. I had suggested to her $350 (before I learned of the existence of Shakodo!), she came back with a "something closer to $250 per image" proposal, so I think we will be able to settle on $300, which was my initial minimum on Shakodo.
I am contacted by a textbook publisher in Canada. For reasons of privacy I will omit some details. The publisher wants to re-use an image initially licensed by a photo agency no longer in activity.
